What is Network Volume?

Network Volume

Network volume functions like a traditional disk volume but offers the flexibility to be moved between different machines. It enables data storage and access across multiple instances, ensuring portability and seamless collaboration.

Key Characteristics:

  • Persistent & Portable: Can be attached to and moved between different instances or machines.
  • Multi-Instance Access: Ideal for scenarios where multiple instances need to share or access data.
  • Collaboration-Friendly: Enhances teamwork by allowing shared access to stored data.
  • Independent Management: Storage persists even when an instance is deleted, as it is managed separately.

Network Volumes on the Greennode AI Platform

Powered by Vast Storage, Network Volumes offer a scalable, high-performance, and durable solution for AI projects. By leveraging Vast Storage, you can optimize AI workflows, enhance efficiency, and accelerate deployment.

Why Use Network Volumes?

  • Centralized Access: All components share the same Network Volume, reducing data duplication.
  • Seamless Data Sharing: Facilitates efficient collaboration by simplifying data exchange.
  • High Performance: Direct access to Network Volumes reduces latency and speeds up data processing.
  • Flexible Configuration: Users can adjust permissions and customize settings as needed.

How It Works:

  1. Create a Network Volume: Define capacity and storage location.
  2. Mount the Volume: Attach it to instances (Notebook, Tuning Job, Inference Job, etc.).
  3. Access Data: Applications use the Network Volume as a local disk, accessible at the default path /network-volume when attached to an instance.
  4. Unmount When Done: Detach the volume when it's no longer needed.

This streamlined approach ensures efficient and scalable data management across AI workloads.
